I've dealt with a similar body-weakness-relationship - hope I didn't cause you to dwell. I was hit by a van and it completely fucked up my rib cage which causes all sorts of problems... collapsed lung, walking, etc. Being a strong person in a body that won't comply is rough. It is a relationship with yourself though. You said "Will to Power" gave you the energy in the convo... I was actually specifically referring to dealing with ways to deal with that sort of core strength shit. Oddly enough this came up out of a completely different subject. But maybe it was an undertone that ran through it. Perhaps looking back to that original comment about energy is the point. To recognize that if this is bothering you, it isn't what others are noticing. I don't know - I'm compelled to comment on this because I struck a nerve with you that if it runs as deeply as mine does, is really uncomfortable.

Take care.

Oops. I meant to write "when told that a particular person to which one is attracted is straight..."

I think the next lines of the song,

It has been before
So it shall be again
And people who are uglier than you and i
They take what they need and just leave

refer less to encroaching/invading others' lives than to not holding back because of one's own marginalized, oppressed, dominated position.

"A rush and a push..." is one of my favorite expressions from one of my favorite songs of my favorite band. Apparently it is a quote from Oscar Wilde's grandmother and had something to do with Ireland. Among my queer friends, it's what one says when told that a particular person to which one is attracted is gay: "Well a rush and a push (and the land that we stand on is ours)." I also like to think of the expression when going into a rugby scrum.

You wrote:
"Today such divides don’t seem to exist and equivalent letters would read like muffled calls out of the postmodern malaise of this time or perhaps as Romeo and Juliet type stories set around Israel, Tijuana, North and South Korea or the Taiwan Strait."

Interesting idea about what the more modern day equivalent if you will. For me, probably one of the first things that comes to mind is that of Cuba, and I'm wondering if you disagree or just left it out (because, yes - there seems to be more than a handful, at least for me). It took a letter I wrote from the east coast USA to Cuba around 2 1/2 months to reach it's destination. I think I'm going to try and write some more about this relationship for future posts...

Tijuana is also an interesting choice, and while I've never been - I imagine something further south of the border, like on the border of Guatemala or something. Snail mail in Mexico, and I'm willing to bet throughout the world, can get pretty sketch. It just seems some a little less "hella sketch" [;-)] than others. Perhaps, one common stereotype for most countries in Latin America is a unreliable snail mail system, and perhaps this holds some half-truth to it.

Funny enough, about South Korea. My brother lives there, and tried to post a youtube video, he filmed of glowing jelly fish a week or so ago. Turns out, he wasn't able to post it because of some strange censorship or something like a lack of "name verification". Information wants to be free, and in some places it has nestled a tiny bit more "freedom" than others it seems.

Anyways, hope this makes sense. I'm just kind of rambling, but again you made a lovely post on Letters. Thank ya.

I appreciated this very personal analysis Aragorn... The two things that I immediately found myself drawn toward was first your defense, and further expansion upon, Sabina's criticism. Namely where you write, "I think you can both not believe in the total righteousness of your project (political or not) AND still participate in it."; and secondly, your treatment of the "fetishization of the Good Revolutionary." I find it incredibly difficult reconciling these two positions, 1. participating, with a certain critical self-reflexivity, in futile projects AND 2. The myth of Good Revolutionary - in that I often don't know why I'm engaging in "anarchist action x, y, z" and while I attempt to authoritatively locate the spaces in such futile and redundant projects where I actually gain something (fulfillment, friendship, etc.) from an certain subtext of understanding within the larger framework of whatever the project's explicit goal is (often something impossible given the social context). I want to believe I can participate in certain projects, without subscribing to the blind faith which often seems to be a prerequisite for such things, but I always find myself angered at the way in which to use your words the myth of the "Good Revolutionary" pervades these spaces - and ultimately I resign myself to alienation, loathing, and contempt. Anyways, I enjoyed this post and look forward to your take on later sections of the novel.

Hey Aragorn, I'm glad to hear the surgery went well and you are recovering. I have been at least middle-aged since my twenties, I think (I remember my grandfather who was in his upper eighties being astonished when he saw my cache of medications on a visit once), due to my long history with ulcerative colitis. Anyway, I have a lot of experience with facing some serious disappointments of the body and if you want someone to talk to about it, please feel free to contact me. -Danita

In retrospect, you didn't know the context of the confrontation and so I don't either.

But Philly APOC (as in, the groupuscule) don't seem right.
